Edmund Roman was
born in New Jersey
on the east coast of America. After graduating from school he
became a professional auto mechanic but soon decided he was
more suited to be an entrepreneur. He bought a fleet of trucks
and became an owner operator.
But Ed’s life
changed in an even

when he met a young lady with a
family business at an indoor flea market. Together they came
up with an idea to sell handmade beaded jewelry and called the
new business "The Beaded Connection". Of course, all Ed’s
trucker friends laughed at him but he didn’t care.
The business
flourished and they
soon opened a second location. After six years, Ed moved into

jewelry. His
experience working with his hands as an auto mechanic made it
easy for him to learn the art of repairing gold jewelry. And
he found it much more interesting and a lot cleaner than
working on greasy diesel engines!
|
Ed
continued the repair
business for another six years and at one point had two stores
and a good contract doing wholesale jewelry repair for another
company operating 39 stores! It was during that time that he
met and married a Thai lady from Bangkok,
Thailand.
| |
|
| When the
recession hit the
United States and the Gulf War occurred, people stopped
spending their savings and Ed eventually had to shut down his
business before he lost everything he had achieved. Asia was
growing rapidly at that time so he moved to Thailand and
enrolled in the School of |

Gemological Science which
taught him a lot about gemstones.
Ed
eventually accepted a job working for a
large lapidary in Bangkok where he learned the art of
cutting stones. Later he worked for a

stone export
company which he represented at the Tucson Arizona Gem
Show. He also sold their goods to jewelry stores and
wholesale gem dealers. |
